Rosie Revere, Engineer, by Andrea Beaty, illustrated by David Roberts.  Rosie is a curious inventor of gizmos and gadgets who wants to be an engineer.  When her flying contraption hovers and crashes, Rosie is discouraged.  Her great-great-aunt helps her to celebrate "flops" and learn from them—just like real engineers do!

Daredevil:  The Daring Life of Betty Skelton, by Meghan McCarthy.  When Betty Skelton was young there weren’t many women flying airplanes or racing cars, but she wouldn’t let that stop her. She was always ready to take on a challenge, and she loved to have fun. Betty rode motorcycles, raced cars, jumped out of planes, and flew jets, helicopters, gliders, and blimps.  If she lived today, she would probably be an astronaut.
