How to Check Out a Nook, Searching, Check Out Period, and more
We currently have 38 Nooks to choose from that contain a variety of topics, and more are being added. Each Nook is dedicated to a different non-fiction topic (such as history, self improvement, and SEC football) or fiction genre/author (such as James Patterson, suspense, and romance). We also have Children’s and Teens’ titles. (Click here for a complete list.) Each Nook contains four titles in one of the above categories. The titles are preloaded so there is no need to transfer titles onto the Nooks. You will not be permitted to purchase new titles, but if there are some you would like to suggest, please let us know.
Searching for Nooks in the catalog is easy. To view the entire list of Nooks that we own, type “Homewood Nook” into the Catalog Search box above. You can also search individual titles or authors that are on the Nooks by entering “Homewood Nook” followed by the title or author’s name. To reserve a Nook, find the one you want in the catalog and click “Request it.” It will be held at the Adult Dept. desk.
To check out a Nook, come to the desk in the Adult Dept. All the Nooks including Children’s and Teens’ are kept at the desk in the Adult Dept. with a display for browsing located in the reference area. You will need your library card in good standing (not expired, no fines over $5) and a government issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license or passport). We will also verify your contact information to make sure it is up to date. You must be at least 15 years old, although parents may check out on their children’s card provided that the parent’s ID number is on the child’s account. The child does not have to be present. There is a limit of one Nook at a time per account.
The Nooks may be checked out for three weeks and renewed once as long as they are not on hold for another person. Late fees are $1.00 per day. Upon check out, you will receive a Nook in a carrying case, a USB cord, and wall charger as well as a booklet with instructions for using the Nook. To return the Nook, please bring it back to the Adult Dept. There will be a $25 charge for Nooks returned to the book drop or to another library.
