This morning the power was out at the library thanks to a big storm last night, but that didn't stop the Children's Department from putting on a full-filled program! Megan, from the Alabama 4-H Development Center came to share some of her favorite nighttime creatures with the kids. She brought a musk turtle, rat snake, an alligator, and two stunning owls. Everyone even got the opportunity to get up close and personal with the alligator and pet his scaly tail! Everyone had a great time getting to know these fascinating creatures of the night.

A very special Thanks to Homewood Cycle & Fitness!
For eight years Homewood Cycle has sponsored the Summer Reading Challenge. This contest has resulted in over 150,000 books being checked out and read by thousands of Homewood summer readers! Once again, starting on June 1 and ending July 24, summer readers who register on our website and check out books from the Children’s Department, could be the winner of a new bike!
Each week of Summer Reading, starting on Sundays and ending on Saturdays, summer readers who check out five Easy books or One Chapter book, and then bring the check out receipt to the Children’s desk, will receive a slip to fill out. Each slip will be added to the bin and one winning slip will be drawn during our finale on July 28. The check out receipt must be from the current week and must show that each child has checked out the number of books required.
You have eight weeks of summer reading to enter! Only one summer reader will ride away with a new bike but every summer reader who reads is a winner! Remember, only a summer reader who is registered before July 20, is present at the finale, and agrees to have their photo appear on our website can win!
If you have questions please ask at the Children's desk or call 332-6619.
