About Our Collection

The library's collection encompasses over 94,000 books, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, and video games. In addition, we have access to thousands of items through the Jefferson County Library Cooperative with 40 public libraries. We serve over 48,000 patrons per month, both from the Homewood community and surrounding areas.

We have one of the largest DVD collections in the JCLC. This includes Hollywood titles, classics and family movies. We also have a large collection of non-fiction DVDs including titles from the Discovery Channel and National Geographic along with how-to DVDs, travel DVDs and a wide assortment of other non-fiction titles.

We also circulate video games. Our games include Nintendo Wii and Game Cube, Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) and 3 (PS3), and Microsoft Xbox and Xbox 360.

Books

Books are checked out for three weeks and may be returned to any public library in Jefferson County. There is no limit to the number of books or books on CD a patron may check out. Late fees are $.15 per day up to $4.95 maximum. Books may be renewed online or by phone at 205.332.6600 (Homewood Library) or 205.226.3790 (JCLC) if not on reserve for another patron. As an extended courtesy, we allow patrons to renew Homewood Library's books once if not on reserve for another patron. This courtesy is for our library's books only. Books may be reserved online or by visiting or phoning the respective department of the library (205.332.6600 main number). In order to serve you better, we accept MasterCard and Visa for late fees and lost or damaged items.

Movies

DVDs are checked out for one week and Homewood Library's movies may be returned to any public library in Jefferson County except Hoover Public Library and Irondale Public Library. The limit on Adult DVDs is 15. There is no limit on Children's DVDs. Late fees for DVDs are $1.00 per day up to the cost of the item maximum. As an extended courtesy, we allow patrons to renew Homewood Library's movies once if not on reserve for another patron. This courtesy is for our library's movies only. Music

Music CDs are checked out for three weeks and may be returned to any public library in Jefferson County. There is no limit to the number of CDs a patron may check out.
