Homewood Public Library is hosting a weekly Robotics Club for middle school students this summer.

REGISTRATION

To register for the HPL Robotics Club, please fill out the attached form and send it to dr.gauntt@bellsouth.net. The form is in two  different file formats; you may use either format. There is no registration or enrollment fee.

 DETAILS

IMPORTANT: Our supply of laptop computers is extremely limited. If you are interested in learning programming or computer aided design,  please bring your own laptop if possible.  HPL Robotics Club will meet in one of the classrooms on the lower floor of the Homewood Public Library from 6:30PM to 8:45PM on every Tuesday from June 6 to July 25, 2017.  Clean-up will start promptly at 8:30PM every night; we need to be able to leave the classroom at 8:45. The club is being led by Dr. David Gauntt, a mentor of the Homewood Middle School robotics team and a faculty member at UAB (Department of Radiology, Division of Medical Physics and Engineering), along with members of the Homewood High School robotics team.  We will be doing the following in the club; you may work on any or all of the following:.

  • Building Legos Mindstorm NXTs robots, and programming them using the Java programming language.
  • Building Vex Robotics EDR robots, and programming them using the C programming language.

BRINGING YOUR OWN LAPTOP OR ROBOT KIT

You may bring in your own robot kits to work with. If you do so, you are responsible for keeping your parts separated from the club kits. If you are interested in bringing your own Legos Mindstorms NXT kit  and would like to program your NXT brick using Java, we will send you instructions on how to set up the brick. If you are interested in programming using C or Java, we will send you instructions to download and install the programming software. This software will work both on Windows and Mac OS X computers.
